  • Have just got home from the most relaxing stay.Janine was so welcoming, and communcation excellent.The pod is beautifully decorated ;with lots of special touches.Was lovely to arrive to fresh milk and eggs, homemade yummy biscuits,coffee, tea and sugar.There is a very informative guest book,explaining all you need to know about your stay and surrounding areas/places to visit.The pods are very private and their positioning is superb,there were 3 onsite but each one was located so that had your own space and privacy. All in all it was just what we needed.The hot tub was luxurious and very easy to use.The barbecue was easy to use and an added bonus.If you are thinking of a retreat from the stresses of everyday life this is your place. A little taste of paradise-will definately be back.

  • High end accommodation in a beautifully peaceful hamlet. Amazing facilities and so welcoming for dogs which is a real breath of fresh air. Central to some lovely places to visit, although you could literally just rock up and enjoy the pod without having to go anywhere. It’s a special place worthy of a visit. And the best homemade shortbread left as a welcome treat. Worth it just for that ❤️

  • Our stay was absolutely fantastic! We were so impressed with how easy everything was and how well thought out everything was. We always forget at least one thing on our trips away but we didn't need to pop out for anything as it was all there for us. Everything was just perfect, the views, privacy, ease of everything and location. We will 100% go back. Massive thank you to lan and Janine for being such easy and great hosts!!

  • We had the most wonderful stay at Pear Tree Pod in Devon.

    From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much thought and care has gone into creating this little haven. The pod was spotless, beautifully presented and had everything we needed, while the enclosed garden was perfect for Otis (our dog) to safely enjoy his own little space.

    We were incredibly lucky with the weather and made the most of the stunning outdoor area. The bath I think was intended to be a romantic, relaxing soak, although in the summer heat it became more of a very refreshing cold plunge!

    As much as we came to relax and spend some quality time together, we wanted Otis to have a holiday too — and he absolutely did! He could roam, sniff and explore the garden, and enjoyed digging at the beach until his heart was content. It was lovely to have somewhere where he was genuinely welcomed rather than simply tolerated. The treats, poo bags, dog towels and even the dog wash station at the entrance, complete with clean towels, were such thoughtful touches.

    The little extras for us were just as lovely. Fresh eggs and milk waiting for us, eclipse glasses and all those thoughtful touches from Janine really made the stay feel personal and special.

    One of our favourite memories was eclipse night, when we sat outside watching shooting stars from the meteor shower. With virtually no light pollution, the night sky was extraordinary.

    It’s in a great location and there’s so much to explore nearby. We visited Widemouth Bay, St Nectan’s Glen, Boscastle, Summerleaze, Bude and Lydford Gorge, all around an hour or less drive. With Waitrose and a local village shop nearby, you also have everything you could need without being far from the peace and quiet.

    It really is a wonderful part of the world to explore, both as humans and with your four-legged friends. We came home feeling completely relaxed, while Otis came home very happy and thoroughly worn out — so we’d say that’s a successful holiday all round!

    We would honestly recommend Pear Tree Pod to anyone and everyone. Whether you have a dog or not, it’s a beautiful place to escape, unwind and enjoy some proper quality time together.

    Thank you so much, Janine and family, for creating such a peaceful and beautiful place. You’ve thought of everything, and we feel very lucky to have experienced it. We can’t wait to come back!

  • We had the most wonderful stay in Apple Tree pod. The pod has everything you need, the design and layout is perfect, the hosts have honestly thought of everything. We had our little dog with us, who thoroughly enjoyed his time. The pod garden area is completely secure, so he enjoyed lying in the sun whilst we enjoyed the hot tub. The area is beautiful and the private woods is great for dog walking. We will definitely be recommending it to all our friends and family and we will certainly be back!

  • These pods are absolutely beautiful! The location is perfect for exploring Bude, tucked away down quiet single-track roads, making it wonderfully peaceful whether you're enjoying a barbecue or relaxing in the hot tub.
    lan and Janine clearly take great pride in their property. The pod was spotless, beautifully presented, and the bedding smelt amazing—freshly washed with that lovely scent booster fragrance. We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway.

  • We have had a lovely time in Higher Dux twice now ! Janine and family have been so welcoming and lovely with our little boy and the cottage has everything you might need and was a true home from home. Milk was in the fridge and lovely biscuits with tea and coffee too. They even kindly took in our shopping delivery and put it away for us ! It has a beautiful garden area where we watched the eclipse and in the 35 degree heat the cottage was lovely and cool.

  • This was our second stay at Dux Farm Retreat, and best believe, we already can’t wait to book our third! 😊

    Janine and Ian are incredible hosts. Having stayed before, they made this visit feel even more special and personalised, which we really appreciated. You can tell how much care and effort they put into making every stay memorable.

    The Pods are superbly maintained — spotlessly clean, beautifully finished and really high spec. The bed is incredibly comfortable, and we absolutely love all the thoughtful little touches, from the welcome note and biscuits to the fresh farm milk, dog treats and poo bags.

    It’s clear that they’ve thought of everything to make the stay comfortable and luxurious not only for us, but for our little pooches too! We especially love the circular walk they’ve created around their own grounds, which is perfect for stretching your legs on arrival or before heading home.

    The location is fantastic, with everything on your doorstep, whether you fancy a trip to the seaside or a peaceful woodland walk. We still have so much more to explore, which gives us even more reason to come back again very soon!

  • We’ve just returned from a wonderful weekend in Pear Tree Pod at Dux Farm. So utterly comfortable and peaceful. They welcome dogs and ours adored the enclosed, safe surroundings of the pod and the off lead walks around the fields and woods at the farm. It’s also brilliantly located for beaches and exploring the surrounding areas. We loved it!

    The location was absolutely beautiful that had a lovely walk on the location.

  • We had such a lovely time in the Higher Dux cottage. It's equipped with everything that you can wish during your stay. Everybody is so welcoming and nice to the dog. The cottage is dog heaven with an enclosed garden, circular walk on the premisses wich can be enjoyed off leash, dog wash, dogs allowed on the couch and even the bed if you bring your own bed linnen. We loved the dog friendly beaches around Bude.

    The setting is beautiful and peaceful, and the owners are incredibly welcoming and friendly. It's clear they take great pride in what they do.

  • From booking to arriving at our pods Janine could not have been more helpful and informative. We had the most wonderful break in the most idyllic of locations. We hired two pods for us and our daughter and we were all blown away with not only the cleanliness but the attention to detail. When Janine says she has thought of everything she really has, even our dog felt looked after. We will be going back without hesitation and cannot recommend Dux Farm Retreats highly enough.

  • We have just stayed at Dux Farm Retreat for the third year running. We would highly recommend the accommodation, it’s in a lovely location and Janine is a wonderful host. The cottage is 100% dog friendly (not just dog tolerable like most ‘dog friendly’ stays), with lots of home from home comforts and a lovely outdoor space too. A 10/10 holiday, as always, and we have already booked to return again next year!

  • I booked Dux Farm retreat as a getaway for my husbands' birthday and we had the most relaxing time. My husband was a very happy man!
    Janine was very helpful and pleasant from start to finish.
    The pictures were exactly on point, everything was sooo clean and tidy inside the pod and out! The BBQ and seating area was such a nice touch too!

  • We wanted to go somewhere dog friendly so we could bring our pup with us, as it was more a holiday for her than it was for us. Dux farm Retreat was absolutely perfect for what we needed, they were set up perfectly for both us and our dog.

    Dedicated wash station on site equipped with a powerful paw washer incorporated into the shower head, doggy shampoo and towels to hand ready for you. Pods are all securely enclosed so your dog can roam free without having to be watched at all times, a dedicated circular walk with two fields attached so they can run off lead to get some extra energy out!

    Janine and the family were very welcoming, attentive and go above and beyond to ensure you have the best experience possible in their site.

    Seaside town of Bude is only 20 minutes away with a lovely beach and dog friendly establishments from Cafes to pubs which cater to all.

    Highly recommend staying At Dux Farm Retreat, and we will certainly
    be back in the future!

  • Janine & Ian’s AirB&B is absolutely perfect! Set in a gorgeous countryside location, it was the loveliest place to relax and unwind! Incredibly dog friendly, our pug loved being able to roam freely around the pod, and we had complete peace of mind knowing the area was fully secure - even whilst relaxing in the hot tub! We really appreciated all of the thoughtful little touches that made our stay feel extra special, dog food and water bowls, towels, birthday decorations, and yummy homemade biscuits that I enjoyed with a cup of tea each morning! We spent both days exploring Bude, particularly Summerleaze Beach! Our first night, we enjoyed fish and chips, collected and hand delivered to our pod by Janine which was such a thoughtful touch. Our second night we drove 10 minutes to a local pizza van ‘Ganache’, serving yummy wood fired pizzas, garlic bread and waffles. We hope to be back soon, thank you for having us! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • We booked Dux Farm for my birthday and puppies first holiday, (who loved the walks & sniffs!) Dux farm is beautiful and the environment really helped us to switch off & relax. Janine is an amazing host. Our online food shop was unpacked into the pod fridge for when we arrived and the fans were blowing in the pod when it was warm. Everything in the pod was well considered, such as the shelf next to the bed which included a mini light, plug socket, space for glasses of water and books and the magnetic black out blind that looked bespoke to fit the port hole window for sleeping. There was great attention to detail in the design & layout. The linen was prepared lovely, pillows soft, bed mattress very comfy. The shortbread was one of my favourite things and it brought a smile to my face, a lovely touch. It was very dog friendly which we loved including scenic walks and all the things in the pod for the dog. Thank you so much for all the little magic touches that made our trip.

  • Our stay at Dux Farm Retreat was simply incredible — a true hidden gem. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, with a lovely private woodland walk that makes it feel even more special.

    Janine and her family could not have done more for us. They were extremely attentive and made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. There are three private shepherd huts (pods) set in their own field, and each one feels completely secluded — even the hot tubs are wonderfully private. The layout has clearly been carefully thought through, and everything you could possibly need is provided. Throughout our four nights, we were left to enjoy our time together in complete privacy, yet Janine was only a field away and just a WhatsApp message away if we needed anything.

    We especially loved the welcome eggs from their chickens and really appreciated the milk, dog treats for Daisy, dog towels, and poo bags — such thoughtful touches. The pods are cleverly fenced so your dog can relax safely without wandering, and the free dog wash station is fantastic, with everything supplied.

    We enjoyed our stay so much that we asked to extend it — which says it all! Whether you’re visiting with or without your dog, this is the perfect escape.

  • We recently stayed at the Plum Tree Pod and cannot recommend it enough. Host Janine greeted us warmly and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The pod itself is great and packed with everything you could possibly need, including thoughtful extras like fresh milk, homemade biscuits, and freshly laid eggs. The attention to detail throughout is second to none. We absolutely loved having our own private hot tub, BBQ, and fire pit.
    Location-wise, it's perfectly placed to explore both Devon and Cornwall. Bude is only a short drive away, where we enjoyed an amazing tapas dinner. It was a fab few days and we would highly recommend a stay here!

  • Dux Farm Retreat is truly stunning and so peaceful. We stayed in the beautiful Pear Tree Pod, which had everything we could possible need (and more) and was spotless throughout. The little extra touches such as homemade biscuits and dog treats made it even more special.
    Janine, lan and Amelia made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We met a couple who had visited several times and we can see why. We are already looking to visit again later in the year and have been telling our friends and family all about it.

  • I booked this as a trip for my boyfriend’s birthday and we had the best time. Everything was pristine and well looked after, there were thoughtful touches everywhere (eggs from the chickens, homemade shortbread, spare shower/bathroom amenities if you had forgotten anything). You can really tell every little detail was thought of. The surroundings were so peaceful and the pods were so pretty, especially in the evening when the fairy lights came on. Overall I would definitely recommend, Janine was a lovely host and was easy to contact and even arrange for some decorations for Lewis’s birthday. We will definitely be back!

  • I booked this place for my partner's birthday, genuinely such a lovely place. The place was private and quiet. Both lan and Janine were lovely, so attentive and responsive at any time you needed them. Everything you could possibly think of needing was there. I would 100% recommend to anyone who wants a couple days away. We will 100% be back.

  • This was the best place for someone looking for a coastal walking trip with their dog. Or evening just a chilled time away without anyone invading your personal space.
    One of a few places I could find online that had a fully enclosed area for just yourself.

    The pod itself was perfect, had everything you needed.

    The weekend away was so nice and I already want to do another trip away with my dog and after being there, it's so hard to find anything close to what this place was (especially for the price)

The location is fantastic – peaceful and relaxing, yet only a short drive from Bude. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to come back!

  • Janine was extremely helpful with communications before we set off for our holiday in Devon.
    Higher Dux is located in the most idyllic village, so peaceful with nature all around.
    When we arrived we were warmly greeted by Janine and shown around her very beautiful holiday let. She pointed out the facilities for laundry which was extremely useful too.
    This accommodation would be suitable for a couple, two couples or a small family. It’s extremely dog friendly too. Everything is on hand for a very pleasant stay. The beds are very comfortable for guests.
    Janine has thought of everything to make your stay wonderful, even a collection of books in one of the bedrooms.
    The shortbread that was there to welcome us was scrumptious. We appreciated milk and eggs too.
    Lovely walks around the grounds if your party can manage it. Not far from coast should you wish to drive to Bude or other resorts close by. Really lovely seating area outside and a patio dining table and chairs for Al fresco dining.
    A perfectly lovely trip which we enjoyed very much and would highly recommend. We would love to return in the future as this is a hidden gem

  • We have just returned from a week staying in Pear Tree Pod at Dux Farm. The pod was so lovely, clean, and had everything you needed plus extras such as welcoming biscuits, local milk, tea, coffee, also toiletries including toothpaste etc... What we were really impressed with was all the facilities for our dog. Bowls, towels, treats, poo bags and best of all a dog shower station which we used every day.
    Janine was extremely helpful and welcoming. We will definitely go back.

  • Ian & Janine were really helpful on arrival, Janine welcomed me and walked me down to the pod and ran through everything I needed to know regarding my stay.

    The pod was exactly what I was looking for, surrounded by nature, peaceful, calming and a place to recharge my batteries. Cooking outside on the bbq provided and using the hot tub was a real highlight during my stay.

    Due to the weather not being great, it was a perfect excuse to stay in the pod and relax. The kitchen facilities allowed me to cook decent meal, Janine & Ian also stocked up the pod with good essentials.

    I went on a walk everyday which were dog friendly recommended by Janine and Ian in the guest information booklet. This was so helpful as I’m not a local and don’t know the area well. I also went to Boscastle Farmshop which so lovely getting food for the pod, highly recommend.

    Will definitely be returning and would highly recommend to anybody looking for somewhere to get quiet time for themselves! Thank you! X

  • First time at Dux farm retreat stayed in the pear tree pod .stayed for 2 nights with dog absolutely lovely . Jane was so welcoming and had everything we needed so peaceful and relaxing lovely dog walk though the woodland then on to fields . Bbq in garden with sitting areas and best of all was the outside bath absolutely beautiful omg didn’t want to get out . We loved the place so will be returning soon . The hosts went above and beyond and were so friendly and welcoming. The pod itself was incredible, providing everthing we needed and more, including complementary fresh milk, eggs and homemade biscuits. You can tell the hosts have put in so much effort to make guests feel comfortable and catered to. All aspects of our visit exceeded any and all expectations. This definitely won't be our only visit to Dux Farm. I would highly recommend staying here❤️

  • We’ve had a fantastic stay and couldn’t fault a thing. The property is even larger than it appears in the photos, beautifully modern, exceptionally clean, and finished to a very high standard. Thoughtful touches such as the personalised welcome note, homemade biscuits, and luxury toiletries made us feel very welcome, while the comfortable bed, smart TV, LED bathroom mirror, and excellent hot tub added to the luxury experience. Janine was a wonderful host with excellent communication and helpful local recommendations throughout our stay. As dog owners, we especially appreciated the secure garden and dog wash station, which made our trip even more enjoyable.   • I had an amazing stay in the Plum Tree Pod! I booked it to celebrate my birthday and to take my rescue dog, Pixie, on her very first holiday, and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

    The pod is beautifully presented, spotlessly clean, and equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The indoor and outdoor spaces are thoughtfully designed and provide the perfect environment to unwind and switch off from everyday life.

    What really stood out was how exceptionally well it caters for both humans and their fur babies. Pixie was made to feel just as welcome as I was, which made the experience even more special.

    It was also the little touches that made our stay so memorable. The dog bowls and treats left for Pixie were such a thoughtful gesture, and I loved the delicious shortbreads and fresh eggs waiting for us on arrival. These personal touches really show the care and attention that goes into creating such a wonderful guest experience.

    Another highlight was the beautiful circular walk right on the doorstep of the pods. It was perfect for exploring with Pixie, surrounded by nature, peace and quiet, and some truly stunning views. Having such a lovely walk so close by made the stay even more enjoyable.

    A special mention has to go to Janine, who was absolutely amazing throughout our stay. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and she made both me and Pixie feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. Her warmth, kindness, and attention to detail really made our stay extra special.

    The hot tub was the perfect finishing touch and made for some wonderfully relaxing evenings. We created some fantastic memories here and can’t recommend it highly enough. Thank you for helping make my birthday and Pixie’s first holiday so special—we’ll definitely be back!

  • Dux Farm was the perfect location for both a quiet retreat from busy life in beautiful Devon and for us to explore the North Coast of Cornwall. We stayed in Higher Dux with our spaniel and Janine makes it so dog friendly, we were very relaxed as she could go everywhere inside and potter outside in the secure garden space. There is a lovely walk on site that goes through fields and woodland and a handy dog wash station (water is warm). We were even lucky enough to see the Barn Owl take flight one night. We have come home very happy and relaxed and can't wait to stay again!

  • We had a lovely stay at Dux Farm in the Plum Tree Pod!

    The pods are well spaced away from each other and are all fenced and secure. This meant it was the perfect place to holiday with our dog, allowing us to relax on the patio or in the hot tub without any worries. There's also secure woodland and fields on site, which were the perfect place to let our dog stretch his legs. Little touches like fresh milk, eggs, coffee, biscuits and dog treats were also well appreciated.

    Janine was a great host and has clearly put a lot of thought into making this the perfect place to holiday with (or without!) a dog!

  • Higher Dux (dog friendly cottage)

    We have just returned home from our third stay in Higher Dux and yet again, it was immaculately clean, warm and welcoming. Janine, Ian and family go above and beyond to make your stay like a home from home. Set in an idyllic and peaceful location. Plenty of walks, including their very own woodland walk, and lots of amenities and places to visit just a short drive away from Dux Farm Retreat.
    Fresh eggs and milk upon arrival as well as the most delicious homemade biscuits!
    Dog bowls, treats and towels also provided.
    The cottage is comfortable, cosy and has everything you need for an easy stay.
    Thank you Janine and Ian for another special stay at Dux Farm Retreat. We hope to return for a fourth time in the not too distant future!

  • Booked last minute as belated birthday treat for my mum and so glad we did!!! The friendliest welcome and the pod itself was spotlessly clean, beautiful decor and Janine had even put up birthday banners which was such a lovely gesture. The pod itself was lovely and secluded and didn’t feel over looked. Such lovely touches like a mini trailer to use to take all your stuff from the car to the pod, toothpaste, teas + coffees, milk, biscuits, dressing gowns to use for hot tub! All really added to the stay. The pod was so dog friendly and really secure so could let our puppy out without worry he would escape! The hot tub and the decor around it was just gorgeous and lovely to sit and see all the stars at night. Thank you for a lovely weekend, we will definitely be returning!

  • We had a wonderful time staying in Higher Dux. The cottage was very nicely presented and clean, and very dog friendly, with all of the amenities needed for a very comfortable stay. Janine was very helpful, arranging decorations, cake and prosecco for my partner's birthday, as well as being very quick to answer any questions that I had both before and during our stay. Our dog loved the on-site circular walk and playing in the fields, and the dog cleaning station was a godsend given the unusually muddy conditions of the walk, owing to the weather! We couldn't have asked for more and couldn't be happier with our stay.

    We would also highly recommend getting a massage from Michelle's Massage. She provides a great service and comes to you on site for added convenience! The massage was very relaxing and just the antidote if you're planning to do lots of walking, or just need to unwind.

It is tucked away and very quiet yet within easy reach of the coast. It was the first time we’ve ever seen one of our dogs truly switch off. They loved sitting by the windows watching the world go by. The cottage had everything we needed and more, with such thoughtful extras (the shortbread was amazing!). Even though the weather wasn’t great, we loved the on-site walks and saying hello to the sheep each morning. We can’t wait to come back!

  • Our stay at Dux Farm Retreat was simply incredible — a true hidden gem. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, with a lovely private woodland walk that makes it feel even more special.

    Janine and her family could not have done more for us. They were extremely attentive and made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. There are three private shepherd huts (pods) set in their own field, and each one feels completely secluded — even the hot tubs are wonderfully private. The layout has clearly been carefully thought through, and everything you could possibly need is provided. Throughout our four nights, we were left to enjoy our time together in complete privacy, yet Janine was only a field away and just a WhatsApp message away if we needed anything.

    We especially loved the welcome eggs from their chickens and really appreciated the milk, dog treats for Daisy, dog towels, and poo bags — such thoughtful touches. The pods are cleverly fenced so your dog can relax safely without wandering, and the free dog wash station is fantastic, with everything supplied.

    We enjoyed our stay so much that we asked to extend it — which says it all! Whether you’re visiting with or without your dog, this is the perfect escape.

    The pods themselves are so beautiful and honestly has everything you could ever need. They also stay really warm and cosy. The outside bath was an added bonus!
    We took our 2 dogs with us and it is the most dog friendly place we have been too. Super secure (even for my spaniel!), dog bowls, towels, treats and a dog washing station.

    The site was so well kept, and a lovely escape from the world. It is in a great location for exploring the local area. I have already recommend Dux Farm to people!

  • Our stay in the Pear Pod at Dux Farms Retreat was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much care and attention has gone into creating a truly special place. The pod is impressively spacious, beautifully designed, and immaculately presented, with a calm and luxurious feel that immediately helps you switch off and relax.

    One of the standout features has to be the outdoor bath. Set in a private, peaceful spot, it felt like utter luxury perfect for unwinding after a day exploring. The pod offers plenty of space both inside and outside, and the surrounding grounds are ideal, especially with the on-site dog walk, which was a huge bonus for us and our dog Max.

    The location is fantastic. You feel wonderfully secluded while still being close to everything you might need. Bude is just down the road and offers a great selection of food and drink options, many of which are incredibly dog-friendly, making days out easy and stress-free.

    Inside the pod, everything has been thoughtfully provided. The facilities are modern and high quality, from the stylish bathroom and powerful, modern shower to the well-equipped cooking area. The smart TV was a great addition for relaxing evenings in, and the little touches really stood out — fresh cookies, coffee, and milk provided on arrival made it feel welcoming and homely. It genuinely felt like nothing had been overlooked.

    Jane was absolutely fantastic and couldn’t have been more accommodating. She was friendly, responsive, and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed, which really added to the overall experience.

    This was a perfect retreat peaceful, comfortable, and luxurious without feeling overdone. We will definitely be returning and cannot recommend the Pear Pod at Dux Farms Retreat highly enough.

  • What a treat! We have previously stayed twice at Dux Farm staying in the cottage, Higher Dux. This time, we had 3 nights in Plum Tree Pod. The glamping pod is spacious and spotlessly clean. Super dog friendly and very secure garden area. Beautiful and well presented grounds to walk around. The hosts, Janine and Ian, are very friendly and have achieved so much in a short time, providing high quality accommodation, both in their cottage and more recently, their pods. Plum Tree Pod comes with a hot tub to the side and very private. We looked forward using this every evening to unwind and relax, enjoying the heat and mood lighting of the tub and gazing at the amazing night sky. We were very reluctant to leave, even the dogs played up to leave.. they didn't want to move. The pod is so fresh and cosy we can't wait to return.

  • Honestly the most relaxing few days we could’ve wished for. Janine was so helpful from the outset when we first contacted her with some questions and was very understanding when our plans had to change. Even though we had pretty constant rain the whole time we were there, it was still so lovely and had everything you needed. Absolutely spotless and you could really see the effort put in right down to the small bits! The hot tub was brilliant and our dog loved getting muddy in the woodland walk and then getting washed down in the outdoor shower. Truly dog friendly and very accommodating.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Higher Dux for a wedding. The hosts were incredibly responsive and even provided helpful tips for our relatives on nearby accommodations. We were warmly met by Janine, who showed us around the beautiful property. The accommodation itself is homely, very clean, and tidy. We loved the thoughtful touches, like homemade biscuits, eggs, milk, tea and coffee and a box of little essentials such as toothpaste and other items you might have forgotten - everything you could need was there. The beds were extremely comfortable, which gave us a fantastic night’s sleep. The road leading up to the property is a bit potholed, so just be aware of this. This is completely out of the hosts’ control and didn’t take away from our stay in any way. We only wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the lovely surroundings and the walks in the area. The hosts were fabulous—friendly, welcoming, and excellent communicators. We hope to return one day!

  • We spent weeks looking for somewhere to stay for couple of nights around Devon & Cornwall. The Dux Farm Retreat was perfect as our main goal was to find somewhere really dog friendly which is close to beaches.

    Janine was the perfect host, friendly and providing tons of information. Everywhere is super clean. The little details were thought of like eggs, milk, tea/coffee, biscuits, dog treats, bowls, towels etc. The dog wash station was amazing. Warm water, shampoo, fresh towels and non-slip mat to ensure the furry ones are safe. This is ideal after walking their onsite circular walk through woodland and fields.

    The pods are a vehicle free area but only a short walk from the parking area. Carts are provided to move bags / shopping / our dog who loved to ride in as he wasn't so fond of the gravel path. There are 2 x steps to get in the pod which may also affect anyone with a disability but all on one level within the pod.

    We stayed for 3 nights in Pear Tree as we were impressed and were disappointed when our stay came to an end. If you want to relax and get away from the real world, this is definitely the place. You can hear a pin drop as the pods are spaced far apart. At night the stars are so bright. We weren't so lucky with the weather but we will return someday to sit in front of the fire and try the outside bath.

    We found that even though DFR is remote, there is a Waitrose / petrol station 9 minutes away and about 20 mins from the coast and lots of country pubs to try nearby. As you'll be on holiday, why should you cook? If you did.... There is a microwave, hob, kettle, coffee machine, toaster and BBQ available.

    I wouldn't consider it glamping, its essentially a luxury spacious pod which is cleverly designed. My husband is 6ft 2 and usually struggles with the size of the beds but this has a kingsize super comfy bed!! We also read in the booklet that there are additional services available - dog sitting, massage and I'm sure there were more (all to be present booked)

  • Everything about this experience was excellent The owners are super friendly and really help to ensure your stay has everything you need The Pod is modern, comfortable, very clean and I loved all the little extra touches that was included (fresh eggs, dog treats, dog blankets, wood for the out door fire pit, hot tub filled and ready to go) For dog owners the fencing is secured all around, and the site has a man made dog trail, dog washing station and so many more things The location is ideal for Cornwall and Devon and I would HIGHLY recommend staying here and will be 100% returning I contacted Janine a number of times with minor enquires and she couldn’t be any more helpful

  • Ian and Janine have excelled themselves with this amazing and relaxing retreat. The standard of finish on the pods is excellent, the cleanliness is outstanding and they have literally thought of every little detail to make your stay as effortless and enjoyable as can be. From spare toothbrush (I actually forgot mine!) to logs for the fire pit to lovely towel robes to freshly laid eggs from their own chickens, nothing seems to be a chore for them. This place is tranquil beyond expectations and our break was amazing! The icing on the cake was a moonlight bubble bath under a very clear and starry sky! Thank you to all at Dux Retreat. I cannot recommend a stay here any more highly. We will be returning and bringing friends with us. I’ve fell in love with our little home for a few days. 5 stars plus!!!!

  • My second visit here in 12 months. I Love everything about the place. In particular, how easy it is to slow down here, I had no need to go anywhere else. The beauty of dux farm is you can access some spectacular places near by, or kick back with everything you need on site. Janine is a great host and kindly took delivery of my shopping before I arrived which made life so much easier as I was travelling alone with my dog.
    Dux is dog friendly on another level, It is considerately set up for them as part of your tribe. They have their own bowls, dog wash area, space to explore & you can even book an onsite dog sitter for special occasion's.
    I booked a massage with Michelle whilst I was staying it was bliss! & so easy to arrange. Michelle is a wonderful therapist and a great addition to the farm retreat.
    Ian and Janine work so hard and have created a little sanctuary that I am grateful to escape to for peace and tranquility when life gets too much. Thank-you for another great staycation.

  • We’ve just returned from the most peaceful and relaxing 3-night stay at the Apple Tree at Dux Farm Retreat, and we honestly couldn’t recommend it more highly.

    Honestly, the best holiday that we have had in the UK ever!! The pod was so cozy, beautiful and relaxing. If you are looking for peace and quiet, then this is your place for some well needed R&R.

    From the moment we arrived, Janine, Ian, and Amelia made us feel so welcome, not like guests, but like friends. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. A special thank you to Amelia for kindly looking after our dogs for a couple of hours so we could pop out to grab a Chinese on my birthday, such a thoughtful gesture that meant so much! Amelia charges £8ph but you know your pooches will be in much capable hands.

    The setting is absolutely perfect for a proper escape. It’s quiet, scenic, and peaceful. The hot tub was stunning and such a treat in the evenings under the stars. The pod itself was clean, cosy, and well-equipped, and we loved sitting by the fire pit or just taking in the beautiful countryside views.

    Being dog-friendly was a massive bonus for us, our dogs had the best time running around in the enclosed dog field, and it was such a joy to see them so happy and free. The whole place felt safe and welcoming for them too.

    If you’re looking for a short break that feels like a proper getaway, where you’re surrounded by nature, welcomed like family, and can just switch off and relax, this is the place to go.

    We’ll absolutely be back.

The pod was the perfect size for myself, my husband and our small dog there were some lovely fresh eggs, milk and biscuits for us when we arrived which was a really lovely touch. The hot tub was tucked away so wasn't over looked by the other pods. Before our arrival, Janine reached out to my partner and arranged for the pod to be decorated for my birthday, and walking in to see the pod set up for birthday celebrations along with a welcome card and treats for our dogs was such a thoughtful and personal surprise. The pod itself was spotless, cosy, and so well equipped that it instantly felt like a home away from home. It was just as welcoming for our dogs, with little details that showed their comfort had been thought about too. The mattress was incredibly comfortable honestly, getting out of bed was the hardest part of the day! Every part of the stay felt thoughtfully put together to help us fully relax and enjoy our time. Janine and Ian were outstanding hosts. Warm attentive, and clearly dedicated to making sure everything was just right from start to finish.

  • Our 2nd visit! We love it here. The cottage is beautifully decorated and equipped and So so clean! The local pub The Bridge Inn is walking distance and Pam is the most lovely landlady. The locals made us feel very welcome - even if we did come last in the pub quiz! Wonderful area for walks and exploring. Beware dogs are now banned on some beaches locally but you just have to go further to Sandymouth National Trust to access the dog friendly beaches. Love Higher Dux, we will definitely return.

  • This airbnb was perfect in every way possible for us. It's our favourite one yet.. and we've visited many! The airbnb was easy to find and we were greeted on arrival and shown to our pod. Janine was very pleasant and kind to us and not to forget our dog Teddy! The pod and grounds were immaculate. Everything you needed and more was there. There was a beautiful dog trail from the pods, to two massive fields and through a wooded area, with a dog washing station which is perfect for our mucky pup! You can tell Janine and Ian pay attention to detail, the little things matter the most. We didn't visit any pubs but visited a Waitrose 10/15 minutes away so we could grab some shopping and have a bbq which they supplied. We spent most of our time in the hot tub and garden area playing uno, which they also supplied!   • From the minute I booked this pods, Janine and Ian contacted me to see if there was anything more they could do to make our stay special. As far as hosting goes they really deserve a PhD, they were nothing but attentive and made us feel so welcome. When we initially arrived, the farm was beautifully manicure looked so bright and tidy. We had trolleys to take our stuff down to the pod which felt so fun and was definitely a great part of the experience. It felt so peaceful and private and had everything you could possibly need. The pods were immaculate and you could really tell so much thought and precious went into this to make it the most perfect set up. The location was the perfect combination of remote, calming and secluded but also 15-20mins from bude which had some lovely shops and food places. Safe to say we were heart broken to have to leave and we hope to stay again Thank you for having us❤️

  • This was the most beautiful and thought out designed pod we have ever experienced, every little aspect was thought out so well and you can tell the host wants all guests to have the best experience. Myself and my partner felt so relaxed and at home here and we didn’t want to leave on checkout, on this we where also offered late checkout at a very reasonable price which allowed us to spend our last day relaxing and enjoying the peaceful area and views. Not only is there a lot to do in surrounding areas, we enjoyed chilling outside in the sunshine and cooking and having a fire.

    We also had fresh milk, 4 eggs, biscuits, fresh fire wood each day and was happy to answer any questions we may had.

    I cannot express how much I recommend Dux farm retreat to everyone, this is by far the best pod out there, will definitely be returning.

    What a wonderful place to stay with dogs, beautiful setting overlooking the Devon countryside with views of sheep, fields and cows .
    The dogs had an exciting time running round the garden and particularly enjoyed the woodland walk through the fields and woods. the cottage is very comfortable and i always have the best nights sleep there as it is so quiet. You are never far from the beautiful beaches of Cornwall, we particularly like Northcote Mouth beach and Saunton Sands.
    Higher Dux is the best place to stay and Janine and family are such friendly and hospitable hosts.

  • Ian and Janine’s Pear Tree Pod was absolutely stunning. It was very clean and private and the location is fantastic to explore all corners of Devon and Cornwall while still being relatively easy to get to especially if you are from the Midlands like us (approx 3 hours). Not only did they communicate the whole way through and provide recommendations and helpful instructions but they also went the extra mile and decorated the pod free of charge for my partners birthday which made it extra special. Cheers for a lovely stay and we will be back again soon!

    We stayed in Higher Dux early December 2024 for my daughter’s birthday and had a fantastic stay despite Storm Darragh! Janine provided a birthday banner, balloons and a cake which was a lovely touch.
    Janine and Ian couldn’t have been more accommodating offering to get groceries for us and providing a generator when the power went off due to the storm.
    Tilly and Freddie (our 2 dogs) loved it too! Lots of lovely walks to be enjoyed

  • Our first stay in a pod was incredible. We contacted Janine last minute, and she was responsive, friendly, and made our booking process easy. The pod was warm, cosy, and thoughtfully designed, with everything we could need. The shower had excellent pressure, and everything was spotlessly clean. We appreciated the dedicated spaces for recycling and storage for outdoor gear. There was even a beautiful walk mapped out for walks on their land. (And a dog paw washing station!) The layout of the pods ensured privacy, and the fenced-in area was perfect for our two dogs. The outdoor space had furniture, a fire pit, BBQ, and a stunning outdoor bath made our stay unforgettable; especially when we used it during a downpour! We slept really well, so quiet. The provided guide for local amenities was helpful, and we enjoyed exploring the area. This was a truly dog-friendly stay, and we couldn’t have asked for more. If you’re considering booking, don’t hesitate - we’ll definitely be back!

  • Higher Dux (dog friendly cottage)

    We stayed at Higher Dux from the 30th December-3rd January with out two Alaskan Malamutes. Higher Dux was of exceptionally high quality, with hosts that were attentive but not imposing in anyway. The outside space for our dogs to roam free without the fear of escaping was reassuring to say the least, and i am sure in the summer months with the view we had from Higher Dux would be amazing.
    The hosts were superb also, there was a local power cut in the area, and within 30 minutes we had a generator running, truly amazing customer service and a rare commodity these days.
    We will be returning for sure, that goes without saying.

    This is our second visit to Dux Farm Retreat and our stay in Higher Dux. The cottage is gorgeous and a real 'home from home'. It is spotlessly clean and the hosts, Janine and Ian go above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. Fresh eggs and milk are provided as well as dog bowls and a small selection of dog treats.
    The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. It is set in a peaceful and rural location. So much to do in the area including some lovely dog friendly beaches. We cannot recommend Dux Farm Retreat enough!

  • Robert and I and our 3 small dogs had the most wonderful weekend a week ago at Higher Dux. We have stayed there before in April and once again so enjoyed ourselves. The dogs also thought it was wonderful especially the new dog walk round the property. So nice to be able to let them off the lead and of course having our own private garden was much appreciated. The cottage was immaculate and we always feel at home there. Janine and Ian are so friendly and helpful. We thoroughly recommend Higher Dux and we will definitely go back next Spring to explore the wonderful beaches nearby. We discovered Northcott beach this time and it was amazing especially for the dogs.

  • Me, my partner and our dog Lucky stayed at the Plum Tree Pod during the August bank holiday and it certainly exceeded our expectations! Firstly, the hosts were not only friendly, but also very attentive and responses over either text or Airbnb were prompt. We were lucky enough to be the first to take Plum Tree Pod on her maiden voyage and what an utter joy. Everything was very thoughtfully setup- to the wide array of utilities and amenities available, to the dog treats, dog cleaning towels- we really couldn't have asked for more. Despite there being 2 other pods on the field, we did not once feel like we needed more privacy. The pods have sufficient distance from one another so noise was not an issue at all. Thank you for having us Ian and Janice, you made our stay in Cornwall especially memorable. If we visit Cornwall again, we wouldn't hesitate to reserve another pod with you.

  • We have just got back from a wonderful week away. The cottage is stunning and Janine is the perfect host. Very clear instructions upon arrival, cottage was spotless with such lovely little touches to make you feel right at home. Janine even showed my daughter and I the chickens, which my daughter loved!! Location of the cottage is excellent as only a 15 minute journey to Bude and lots to see in the surrounding areas. Janine has provided a very detailed booklet on places to go and see which is very helpful. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a bottle of prosecco, helium balloons, and banners, all arranged by Janine to make our stay extra special. The pod itself was immaculate, and we were particularly impressed by the attention to detail, including the luxurious bathrobes, coffee pods, and homemade biscuits.

    The pods are situated in a stunning location, offering a private walk on the property that we thoroughly enjoyed, along with the chance to visit the chickens.   • Perfect stay in the pear tree pod. The pods are very well equipped and thoughtfully laid out so that you have everything you need and to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Firewood, toiletries and basic kitchen supplies were all provided. They are spread out in a spacious meadow, very peaceful and just what we needed to relax for the weekend. The hosts were very welcoming and keen to make sure we had everything we needed. Would highly recommend.

  • Janine was so welcoming when we first arrived and greeted us at the car to show us around the property. We were only the 2nd ones to be staying here! We were staying as part of our minimoon and were greeted with a card, banner, lovely note and a bottle of fizz. the personal touches were incredible, bottle of milk, home baked biscuits and bowls for our two dogs. They have thought of everything! The pod was completely pristine and beautifully decorated. The outside area has everything you could want, rattan furniture, fire pit and beautiful bath which is fenced for Privacy. the pod is extremely pet friendly, being fenced right round so that your dogs are able to play safely. There is a really helpful guide book with information on local attractions, walks, restaurants and also the pod itself. Janine was always on hand if we needed anything.   • We travelled from Bristol for our second stay at Higher Dux Retreat in Pyworthy, Bude and this time took our long time friends. Again, our 2 small dogs also came. On arrival, we were most welcomed by Janine and her husband Ian, and had a catch up with things. Their hosting skills are exemplary and communication from booking the stay to returning home is excellent with lots of additional info and helpfulness. The cottage itself is quirky and unique and Janine has a very, very high standard of cleaning. Everything is spotless and I mean everything. Not a single hair or fluff in sight. Also, very dog friendly, with bowls and treats, washing facilities for them and a secure large garden that is completely safe for them to roam. They also provide treats for the adults which is a lovely touch. Our friends also said that they had a wonderful time there and would also return. I asked Janine to show us the new luxurious glamping pods that they are installing on their land and they are furnished to a very high standard and are roomy. These will also be dog friendly which is a bonus and if we have additional family members that would like to stay with us then this could be an option. Along with the secure garden, comes a large patio area with a bbq and outdoor rattan furniture and is there for you to enjoy. A sheltered area is also available complete with washing line and pegs (however, that is the last thing I would want to do!). I'm so glad we have found this gem of a place and highly recommend a stay there - you will not be disappointed. Thank you Janine and Ian. You should be very proud of yourselves. We wish you every success for a busy future!

  • Janine and Ian's place is fantastic. Comfortable, immaculately clean and with every amenity it's ideal rural location is perfect for a relaxing break with superb countryside walks and close proximity to the North Cornwall and Devon coast for beaches, cliffs and coastal paths. We couldn't have been made more welcome; Higher Dux is very private and peaceful, cosy and so comfortable you don't really want to leave. Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed.

  • We felt welcomed and at home straight away even our dog was welcomed with treats, dog bowls and throws for comfort. For us, all you would need, milk, eggs, tea bags actually everything, so many small touches that amounted to an over all feeling of home, this allowed us to relax and enjoy this beautiful accommodation immediately. Peaceful and secluded hamlet close to beaches and towns. Would recommend Sandymouth Beach for sheer impact.

  • We had a wonderful stay. We have two rescue dogs with no recall and adventurous spirits and we've been let down by so many hosts who tell us their garden is well fenced when it hasn't been. Higher Dux had a wonderful fence which was very secure, meaning that we could properly relax. Its hard to explain how wonderful our weekend was because of that. It's a beautiful property, well equipped with so many little thoughtful extras. It's also extremely quiet at night which we loved. Highly recommended!

  • We had an absolutely fantastic stay here. Ian and Janine had thought of everything which meant that we immediately felt at home. They provided plenty of instructions beforehand, with local recommendations and helpful hints. We travelled into Bude as it was only a 20 minute drive away but we could have stayed in the area going on walks, visiting local pubs and still had a great time. We didn’t take a dog but was a very dog friendly place to stay. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay, thank you.

  • What a beautifully appointed property. Everything was so clean and neat, inside and out. With a choice of seating areas in both front and back gardens, which are both totally secure. Great for dogs. Ian and Janine were so helpful from start to finish. Great communication. There are plenty of beaches, walks and waterfalls just a short drive away. A very relaxing and comfortable few days away. We would definitely recommend this unusual property as your next go-to holiday. We certainly hope to revisit.

  • A unique find in Devon! Right on the Cornwall boarder allowing access to the whole south west in easy reach. The most beautiful cottage with the most amazing scenery, couldn’t recommend this stay more. Cottage was beautifully presented inside and out, with charming character and finished to a very high standard.
    The hosts were perfect and catered to all our needs. With amenities not too far away you have the best of the countryside and coast with Bude only 10-15 minute drive away. St Nectan’s Glen Waterfall is only 20 miles away and is certainly worth the drive to experience something completely unexpected. Would defiantly recommend this stay to anyone looking for a break away to relax and recharge.

  • Beautiful cottage, so welcoming and friendly. Janine provided such clear instructions on how to find the cottage and was there to greet us when we arrived. Lovely touches too, with towels for our dog as well as treats for her too. Loved the fact that the outdoor areas were completely secure too so we had no concerns about our dog escaping. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it and would definitely look to return.

  • Wow. What an absolutely incredible find! We have been to many Air BnBs over the past few years and can truly say this is one of the most immaculate places we have ever stayed. It was spotless from the moment we walked in! Very homely, spacious and comfortable. Everything you need and suited us perfectly with gorgeous views all around. We didn’t have a chance to use the BBQ and outside seating area but can imagine it would be wonderful when the weather is right. Location is great, with lots to do just a short drive away. Easy access all around to areas of Devon and Cornwall, with amenities close by. It is private without feeling too isolated. Even before we arrived, ours hosts were so helpful and really went above and beyond! Thank you for a great stay, we are so lucky to have found Higher Dux - do not hesitate to book this wonderful place before it gets booked up! :)

  • Our stay at Janine and Ian’s property was fantastic. We came down for a family birthday celebration get away and need less to say we were more than happy with the stay. We mentioned prior to arriving that we had a birthday in the party and our hosts catered to that with balloons, Prosecco and cake at a small arrange fee! The accommodation is clean and homely and the surrounding area is beautiful. Janine and Ian were very helpful with any questions or recommendations. We highly recommend staying here!

  • Higher Dux is a superb cottage to holiday in. Janine, the host, has been very informative, helpful and friendly from the moment of booking, during and after the holiday. The cottage is set in a beautiful space that is secure for children and dogs. Ample parking and an excellent patio area to have a bbq (included) and has a relaxing corner rattan suite. The rear garden is also secure and has additional seating for outside enjoyment. As for the property, it is furnished to a very high standard. Lots of extras provided as well which is an excellent touch. Beds are really comfortable and we all slept well. The cottage is spotlessly clean and well maintained. Shower and bathroom both excellent. Higher Dux is situated in beautiful countryside and close to beaches and Bude. We will be returning and would highly recommend staying here for an excellent experience.

Outdoor space was vast, stunning views & very peaceful. Our girls (7 & 5) & our dog all agreed this was “the best holiday ever”!!   • This is a little gem of a place. From the beautiful setting, the elegant design, the well-appointed kitchen and the barn owls. Janine is a very responsive and proactive host who made us feel at home from the moment she greeted us. The design has been carefully and deliberately put together to make things easy for visitors travelling light. The kitchen is well appointed enough to make cooking for a small family easy. The bedrooms were clean and well-proportioned and the two bathrooms made getting ready for the day simple. The site is private enough to be comfortable with great outdoor spaces including bbq and seating. Sitting out in the early evening sunshine watching the barn owls hunting will live long in the memory.

  • This is an outstanding property in every respect. The house has been recently renovated to a very high standard with superb fittings and equipment. High quality bedding that was pristine. The layout was excellent with the en-suite bedrooms at either end of the house and the snug kitchen and living area centrally located.
